News24xx.com - The Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL) project is being carried out in the center of Pekanbaru, on Jalan Ahmad Yani and Sukajadi District. With this project, household waste in the form of dirty water is recycled into clean water.

Pekanbaru City Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Head Indra Pomi Nasution, Sunday (10/13/2019), said several excavations in the center of Pekanbaru were for the WWTP channel. The WWTP work was carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Kemen PUPR) involving two contractors namely PT Hutama Karya and PT Wijaya Karya.

"They plant underground pipes. This WWTP is a dirty waterway. So, household waste and restaurants will go through the pipe," he said.

The end of the WWTP channel is in the Sumber Sari Atas area. There dirty water will be treated.

Dirt and water will be separated. So, the water that comes out of this WWTP is clean again for community use.

"We want to separate waste water from clean water. Our drainage will no longer have household waste. All dirt will be separated," Indra Pomi explained.

During the construction, Pekanbaru residents will feel the narrowing of the road until next year. Indeed, residents are somewhat disturbed.

"However, this project is for our future too," Indra Pomi said.

When viewed from the side of waste treatment, Pekanbaru and other big cities are too late compared to other countries in Asia. Moreover, this WWTP program is a Sustainable Development Goals (sustainable program) that promotes 100 percent clean water, zero slum houses, and 100 percent sanitation.
