Paying Special Attention to the Tourism Sector, BI Appreciates the Performance of Pekanbaru Mayor

Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia at the Indonesia Halal Tourism Business Conference at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Friday (11/15/2019), said the mayor of Pekanbaru was considered very supportive of President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) program. The tourism sector is one of the development priorities in Pekanbaru City.

Pekanbaru Mayor Firdaus said, he was committed to improving the program in the field of tourism. This was done since Pekanbaru was designated as a halal tourist destination in Indonesia.

"Kemenpar has also appointed one of the Pekanbaru regions as Special Economic Zones (KEK) for Tourism," he said.

Pekanbaru City Government continues to be committed to advancing the tourism sector in improving the economy. Tourism and economy are closely related.

"The relations between the two are complementary. The economy will grow if it is driven by the development of increasingly advanced tourism, especially for small, medium, and upper business actors," Firdaus said.

Regarding halal tourism, this refers to the city of Pekanbaru, which is predominantly Muslim. Of course, this will become a potential new market going forward.

"As this activity goes on, we hope to further strengthen the pillars of smart economy in realizing Pekanbaru Smartcity Madani," Firdaus hoped.
