Outstanding! Riau Has Passed 145 Athletes to PON XX 2020

News24xx.com - After the Sumatra Regional Region X ended, now KONI Riau is faced with the preparation of the best athletes to take part in the XX PON which will be held in Papua in 2020.

The Chairman of KONI Riau, Emrizal Pakis, said that so far, from the results of the Regional Office and the Pre-PON National Championship, around 145 Riau athletes have qualified for the Papua PON 2020.

"This is only temporary data, because there are still a number of sports (sports) more that will only carry out pre-PON National Championship," Emrizal told Riau1.com, Friday 15 November 2019.

Emrizal continued, from the results of the Regional Administration and also the pre-PON National Championship, it is estimated that there are more than 200 Riau athletes who qualify for PON XX 2020. "We estimate there are 200 Riau athletes who will qualify for PON XX 2020," he said.

As is known, the Riau contingent team managed to collect as many as 95 medals, consisting of 35 gold medals, 23 silver medals and 37 bronze medals and was named as the overall champion of Sumatra Regional Office 2019.

Of the 11 sports that were competed, swimming sports became the largest contributor to the gold medal for Riau with 14 gold medals, as well as seven silver medals and seven bronze medals.
