The pain felt wrapped around her stomach so that Carly's mother quickly sent her daughter to the emergency department.

After a series of regular physical examinations and blood tests, doctors could not find the cause of the girl's pain.

Carly was then asked to go home and she was only given painkillers.

However, Carly's pain did not improve.

She wrote in his diary: "I am very sick and I am in great pain, burning in the legs, almost like burning acid."

A few months after returning to Australia from Fiji, Carly had repeatedly gone to the emergency department but the doctor could only provide painkillers to help ease her pain.

The moon turned into years but Carly still suffered.

Her family then began to seek medical help from abroad.

In an effort to find out the cause of her stomach pain, Carly and her mother went to the United States to undergo a biopsy.

However, they had to swallow the bitter pill, her condition did not improve and the cause of the pain remained unknown.

Sometimes in the middle of the night, Carly had to wake up due to excessive pain, so often she cried and complained of her suffering.

Carly is really very depressed by her deteriorating health.

Until July last year, Carly's doctor announced that they had received biopsy reports and found surprising results.

As it turns out, Carly has Gnathostomiasis, a condition where flesh-eating parasites live in her body.

"It's like a worm, has teeth and moves by chewing through tissues and muscles and destroying it wherever it moves," Carly said of gnathostomiasis.

According to the Royal North Shore Hospital, Dr. Bernard Hudson, the parasite can be deadly if not treated.

"It can attack any organ system, through the lungs, the brain, into the bladder, liver, anywhere," he said.

These terrible parasites can be transmitted from immature freshwater fish, chickens, reptiles, eels and frogs, and are most often found in Southeast Asia, Central and South America, and parts of Africa.

After seeing the diagnosis, Carly and her parents began to remember their trip to Fiji six years ago that she remembers eating immature fish.

The fish is likely to have been contaminated with a meat-eating parasite, Gnathostomiasis.

According to Dr. Carly, more than 50 people have been diagnosed with Gnathostomiasis in the hospital for the past 20 years.

While others recover soon after treatment, others are disadvantaged.

To make people aware of the danger of this parasite, Carly decided to share the story to remind the public:

"If you go to this island, be sure to be careful with their food and drinks. Avoid raw food, don't repeat my mistakes."

After being diagnosed, Carly was treated with a worm tablet that works to kill parasites.
