Pekanbaru Parliament Supports Riau Provincial Government to Fix the Main Stadium

PEKANBARU- The condition of Riau Main Stadium is currently very alarming and needs improvement. Related to this Pekanbaru City Council fully supports the steps of the Riau Provincial Government to continue the improvement of the Riau Main Stadium, located on Jalan Naga Sakti, Tampan District.

"We give full support so that the realization of revamping the main stadium runs. Even if the Riau Provincial Government asks for the involvement of the City of Pekanbaru in this reform step, we in the Council will certainly be happy to sit together," said Deputy Chairman of the Pekanbaru City Parliament Tengku Azwendi, when talking with reporters , Thursday (5/12/2019).

Touched about what can be assisted by the Pekanbaru City Government for this initial stage, this Democratic politician considers it more precisely to be asked to the Provincial Government so that disagreements occur.

"We do not know what the immediate needs are, but for the beginning, according to my observations, there needs adequate street lighting. And if the provincial government is willing to shift the responsibility of street lighting around the stadium to Pekanbaru, I feel there is no harm," he said.

Azwendi assumed, the investment value of a stadium is very large, if it is managed seriously, because there is a very high commercial potential in it.

"Let us make the stadium not only a place for sporting events, but also there is a value of economic turnaround per day in it. Maybe by providing restaurants, knick-knack shops managed by umkm players, or renting stadium parking lots for concerts, festivals, and so on," Azwendi said.

In its execution, the use of the stadium for events other than sporting events can indeed increase financial benefits for stadium managers. This cost can also be partly spent on stadium maintenance costs which is certainly not cheap.

"We hope this can be realized in the near future. Moreover, there is an ideal of the Riau Provincial Government to host the 2020 world cup in the year 2021," he said. (R24 / Put)
