News24xx.com - Tropical Cyclone Tino strengthened into a Category Two storm on Saturday (18 January 2020). The storm is moving towards Tonga after devastating Fiji. At present two people are missing and more than 2,000 have fled to the emergency shelter.

No kidding, the Fiji Meteorological Agency said, gusts of wind from Tino increased to 155 kilometers per hour and the danger of damaging winds and floods remained.

Uraia Rainima, a senior government official in northern Fiji, said more than 2,600 people were sheltering in evacuation centers.

Their homes were inspected on Saturday before they could return home, but Rainima believed the damage was not as great as the first feared.

Taveuni Island, with a population of around 19,000 people, is now without electricity, Rainima said.

Meanwhile, police resumed the search for a father and daughter who were swept away as they tried to cross the overflowing river on Thursday night.
