News24xx.com - A mother in Russia was jailed 13 years after admitting that she had a party with her friends for a week and let her child starve to death.

Maria Plenkina was convicted on Friday (17 January 2020) in Kirov, after admitting to deliberately killing her three-year-old daughter, Kristina.

Reporting from the Daily Mail, Maria was jailed for 13 years after letting Kristina starve to death in February 2019 then.

During the trial, it was revealed that Maria deliberately left the child in the apartment with only a little food.

In the apartment, the 21-year-old mother did not provide water at all or turn on the lights for her child. She went to the party with her friend just like that.

Investigators said Maria admitted she deliberately turned off the water and closed the apartment door before leaving for a week.

During the party with her friends, Russian media reported that Maria was having a great time, and "enjoying her time".

The child was found starving to death in a naked state in a cold room. She is known to only consume chicken, yogurt, and sausages from the mother.

In court, the prosecutor stated that he was so hungry that the three-year-old boy was said to be trying to eat washing machine soap.

"Plenkina understands that what she does is a cruel and evil act," explained Judge Roman Bronnikov.

Maria also admitted that she had lied by telling her mother and friends that Kristina was already watching.

Before leaving, Kristina's weight was around 7.7 kilograms, less than half the expected weight of a three-year-old child.

Maria's mother, Irina Plenkina, strongly supports the prosecutor who had asked Judge Bronnikov to give a harsh sentence.

Irina was the first to discover that her granddaughter had died when she came to the apartment carrying a gift for her third birthday.
