Speedboat Hit by Waves Towards Malaysia, 20 Migrant Workers Drowned in the waters of North Rupat


IllustrationIllustration - As many as 20 Indonesian Workers (TKI) who will leave for Malaysia, reportedly sank when the speedboat that was boarded crossed the waters of North Rupat, Bengkalis Regency.

It is said, all the victims of the TKIs were known to leave for Malaysia via Rupat Utara, on the night of January 21, 2020, around 21.30 WIB. The cause of the speedboat sinking is suspected to have a leak.

He said, on January 21, 2020, at around 19.30 West Indonesian Time, 20 victims suspected of being illegal migrant workers departed from the Pangkalan Buah River, Sungai Cingam Village, Rupat District to Malaysia by speedboat. Previously the migrant workers were staying at the home of one of the residents.

"The number of victims was 20 people, including 18 migrant workers and 2 people tekong. Around the middle of the trip, the speedboat sank because of the big waves crashing, at that time all passengers still had time to use a life jacket," he said.

"Of the 20 drowned victims found survivors, around 10, 7 men and 3 women, 10 other victims are still in search," he continued.

Tommy continued, the witness said that on January 22, 2020 at 16.00 West Indonesian Time, he was catching fish in a position in the White Sand waters and seeing a life jacket floating in the waters.

"And it turns out humans are in a fainting condition, then Pak Sabarius did help to the victim and after one of the victims recovered, there were known to be 20 victims," ??he said.

At present, there are around 10 more victims at Pasir Putih waters. All victims who were successfully evacuated were taken to a resident's house named Suarno on Jalan Pemuda, Kador Village, Kecamayan Utara Rupat Utara.
