News24xx.com - A magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit the region between Cuba and Jamaica on Tuesday afternoon. The epicenter was in the Caribbean Sea about 83 km north of Montego Bay, the capital of St. James, and about 87 miles south of Granma, Cuba, according to the United States Geological Survey service.

It was a relatively strong but shallow earthquake with a depth of about 6 miles. An earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter Scale.

Initially reported at 7.3 but revised to 7.7. There are no immediate reports of injury or damage.

Residents as far away as Miami say they feel the vibrations from a strong earthquake. Robert Lee, who was working on the 25th floor of the Miami Tower in Downtown Miami at the time, said he could feel the building "rocking".

"That's crazy! I looked up and saw the lights shake and I came out," Lee told ABC News. He said there were hundreds of people outside easily at one point.

Police in Miami said no injuries were reported there.

Andrew Jowett, a lawyer working in Grand Cayman, said he did not see any signs of damage to the large infrastructure in the area, but looked at some broken windows and cracks around the building. He said he felt several small aftershocks within hours of the initial earthquake.

"People are afraid that a tsunami will come soon," Jowett told ABC News. "I can hear a lot of sirens and heavy traffic everywhere, but there doesn't seem to be a big mistake."

Belkis Guerrero, who works at the Catholic cultural center in the center of Santiago, Cuba, said she felt the impact there. He said there was no real damage.

"Apparently there are some cracks on the road in the cricket field," he said, and "there are sink holes around gutters or drains."

"We all sat down, and we felt the chairs move," Guerrero told The Associated Press after the earthquake. "We hear the sound of everything moving."

"It feels very strong, but nothing seems to happen," he added.

Tsunami warnings were issued for areas off the coast of Belize, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Cayman Islands and Jamaica after the earthquake, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. The center said the areas could experience waves as high as 3.3 feet above the tidal level.
