Carbonmonoxide Leaks in the Bronx Apartment Building Injuring Eleven Residents

News24xx.com - The carbon monoxide leak in a Bronx apartment building left seven adults and children sick, along with the first four respondents who rushed to help them Monday.

FDNY cleans 15 apartments in a building on Decatur Ave. on E. 195th St. around 5:20 pm, and found seven people - including a mother and her two children, aged 1 and 4 - overcome by odorless and dangerous smoke, officials said.

The seven went to Jacobi Hospital, as did four EMS members, an FDNY spokesman said.

"Carbon monoxide is measured at 200 parts per million. That's high, "said FDNY Deputy Chief Michael Gunning.

"They are nauseous and have difficulty breathing," Gunning said of the victims.

Exposure at that level can cause disorientation, unconsciousness and death. The rate rose even higher - up to 500 parts per million - before firefighters cleaned up the leak, FDNY officials said.
