Three Members of the Indonesian Diamond Princess Ship Crew are Positive COVID-19

News24xx.com - Three Indonesian crew members aboard the quarantine Diamond Putri cruise ship anchored off the coast of Japan have tested positive for COVID-19, a disease caused by a new corona virus, Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi has confirmed.

 "According to my latest communication with the Japanese ambassador in Jakarta, we have obtained information that three of the 78 Indonesian crew members on the cruise ship were confirmed [for COVID-19]," Retno told reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The minister added that two people found suffering from the disease had been taken to a hospital in Chiba, Japan. The third is waiting to be taken to the hospital at noon on Tuesday.

A team from the Indonesian embassy in Tokyo has gone to Chiba to ensure that Indonesians receive proper treatment from Japanese authorities, Retno said.

"We have also contacted the families of three Indonesian crew members," he continued.

The Diamond Princess, which initially carried 3,711 people, has been quarantined in Yokohama since last week after a passenger who disembarked last month in Hong Kong was found to have a new corona virus. Among the people in it were 78 Indonesian citizens who were part of the crew.

On Tuesday, Japan confirmed that 446 had tested positive for COVID-19, Retno said.
