News24xx.com - Barriers like fences along Wharfage, the historic city of Shropshire shifted overnight. Evacuation operations in the area were also carried out.

Mark Sitton-Kent, director of operations for the Environment Agency, said the barrier had been damaged by the mere volume of water.

Sitton-Kent said the water seeping under the barrier was thought to enable it to move backward.

Flood-affected residents fled their homes. They were worried that the 22-mile flood barrier along the River Severn had failed to save them.

Snow and ice yellow weather warnings have been issued for most of the Midlands including the Severn River in Shropshire, where flood defenses are bent underwater pressure.

The police told people in Ironbridge to leave their property and business as soon as possible when the Severn River water was oblivious and forced the flood defenses to move alongside the river to shift.

In Bewdley, firefighters have been assigned to the city to evacuate residents as well as paramedics to help vulnerable and elderly people. Emergency workers also tried in vain to pump flood water back to Severn.
