Pierre died at the age of 26, as he served as the aide of Great TNI General, Abdul Haris Nasution with the rank of first lieutenant.

Pierre was born on February 21, 1939, and died on October 1, 1965. He was the son of a Minahasa-blooded doctor, and Cornet M.E, a French-blooded Indo woman.

Since childhood, Pierre is eager to become a member of the military, whereas the father wants his son to be a doctor.

Because of his strong determination, he also managed to join the Army Engineering Academy (ATEKAD) in Bandung in 1958.

After graduating from the military academy in 1962 with the rank of second lieutenant, Tendean became Commander of Platoon Battalion Zeni Tempur 2 Kodam II / Bukit Barisan in Medan. A year later, he attended an education in intelligence school in Bogor.

Right from there, he was assigned to the Army Intelligence Service Center (DIPIAD) to spy on Malaysia in connection with the confrontation between Indonesia and Malaysia; he was in charge of leading a group of volunteers in several areas to infiltrate Malaysia.

On April 15, 1965, Tendean was promoted to lieutenant one, and was assigned as the adjutant of TNI Great General Abdul Haris Nasution.

On the morning of October 1, 1965, the September 30th Movement (G30S) troops came to Nasution's house in order to kidnap him.
Pierre, who was sleeping in the back room of General Nasution's house, woke up with gunfire and ran to the front of the house.

He was caught by a gang of G30s who thought he was Nasution because of the dark house conditions.

Nasution managed to escape by jumping over the fence. Pierre was then taken to a house in the Lubang Buaya area with six other high-ranking officers. He was shot dead and his body dumped into an old well with six other officers.

Pierre Tendean along with the other six officers are buried in Kalibata Hero Cemetery, Jakarta.

To appreciate his services, Tendean was awarded the title of Hero of the Indonesian Revolution on October 5, 1965 based on Presidential Decree No. RI. 111 / KOTI / Year 1965. After his death, he was posthumously promoted to captain.
