Unexpected! Isolation Turns Up Increasing Divorce Rates

In a matter of months, the global pandemic COVID-19 has changed the love affair. Many marriages were postponed, while divorce rates have reportedly jumped in China because of the crisis.

Reporting from the New York Times, this crisis has given rise to new problems regarding the number of couples whose marriages were torn under the pressure of isolation, then called "Covidivore".

Sean Safford, a professor of sociology at Sciences Po in Paris, said the crisis caused by corona had made the desire to be in direct contact prohibited.

Dr. Lucy Atcheson, a psychologist based in London, said that isolation created a new togetherness for some people. While on the other hand, isolation also strengthens friction and conflict.

In China, the first country of the corona nesting plague made the number of divorces surge in March. At least two provinces in China, Sichuan, and Shanxi report that couples claim to fight frequently during isolation.

While quoting Business Insider, Chinese Health Officials say the increase in divorce due to isolation can be explained by two factors.

First, the office has been closed for a month, so it is likely to be hit by a wave of pending divorce requests.

Second, many people have been quarantined at close range, creating a very vulnerable environment for marital disputes.

This provides an interesting puzzle for researchers to determine whether time spent together at close range is good or bad for couples.

In the end, balance is the key to long-lasting partners. This was stated by psychologist Rob Pascale and Lou Primavera Ph.D., author of Making Marriage Work.

"The combination of time with friends and family, time together as a couple and separate time for each partner adds to the quality of marriage," they said.

Unfortunately, isolation for more than a month destroys the balance which affects the quality of marriage.
