The government again asked the Indonesian Ulema Council to issue a fatwa amid the Corona pandemic. This time, the government asked MUI to make a fatwa on Eid prayer during the Corona outbreak.

The Minister of Religion Fachrul Razi issued Circular No. 6 of 2020 concerning the guidance of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1441 Hijri in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. One of the points is regarding Eid prayer.

In its circular, Fachrul said the Eid Al-Fitr prayers, which are usually held in congregation in a mosque or field, were canceled.

As long as the Corona outbreak is still around, Fachrul asks people to worship at home. The public is not recommended to hold tarawih prayers, tadarus Al-Qur'an, until iktikaf in mosques or musalas while there is still an epidemic.

"Prayer is performed individually or in congregation with the nuclear family at home. Breaking the fast together, whether carried out in government institutions, private institutions, mosques, or prayer rooms are abolished," he said.

Vice-President Ma'ruf Amin once asked MI to issue a fatwa for medical staff not to perform wudu and tayamum to offer prayers. Ma'ruf reasoned, the medical staff used personal protective equipment (PPE) for hours without being opened.

The fatwa, according to Ma'ruf, is important to immediately discuss. Ma'ruf hoped that with the fatwa, medical staff could carry out the prayers in peace.

"This is important so that the officers will be calm if later it might have happened, so there must be a fatwa," he said.
