Indonesia Reports the Largest COVID-19 Case, 25 Doctors Reported Dead

Indonesia has announced the highest increase in the number of daily cases, while 25 doctors have died from the COVID-19 coronavirus.

218 new cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia now bring the total number of national victims to 2,491, while 209 deaths from the virus make Indonesia the country with the highest number of deaths in Asia outside China.

The increasing number of doctor deaths due to coronavirus in Indonesia is thought to be a result of the lack of protective equipment available to health professionals working in Indonesia.

Halik Malik, a spokesman for the Indonesian Doctors Association confirmed the deaths of doctors, he said that the risk of infected medical workers was always there, but the point was that medical workers needed to be protected in any way.

Yet the fact is President Joko Widodo has also said in a cabinet meeting that personal protective equipment (PPE) has been distributed throughout the country. The distribution of PPE now depends on local officials to monitor the arrival of stock in hospitals. Meanwhile, Indonesia's own intelligence agency estimates that more than 100,000 cases will occur in Indonesia in July when the virus peaks in the next three months.
