News24xx.com - Iran launched a new ballistic missile on Friday, September 22, 2017 to increase pressure on the United States by defending its right to strengthen military defense.

Called Khorramshahr missiles, the weapon appeared in a military march in Tehran. It has a range of 2,000 kilometers (almost 1250 miles) and can carry many warheads. With that distance, the missiles will be easy to reach Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that Tehran will continue to advance by strengthening its missile and military defense capabilities.

"We will promote our military power as much as we think it is necessary, we do not ask anyone's permission to defend our land," Rouhani said, as quoted by CNN.com, on Saturday, September 23, 2017.

He added that his side will help Syria, Yemen and Palestine, and we will strengthen the missiles.

He said the United States and Israel had isolated themselves by opposing the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and other major powers. He added that Iran remains fully committed to the pact.

French President, Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday said that although the 2015 Iran deal is imperfect, the international community should stick to it or face other situations such as North Korea.

Macron also called for a new deal to monitor Iran's missile development.

Mark Fitzpatrick, executive director of the Institute for Internal Strategic Studies-Americas, explains that Iran has been known to have missiles with a range capable of reaching Israel. However, most recently, Iran says its ballistic missiles can carry many warheads and possibly some cluster bombs.

"It has the potential to carry nuclear warheads, but I am skeptical about whether it can bring a lot of people because nuclear warheads are so big," Fitzpatrick said.

Fitzpatrick agreed it would be a good idea to extend Iran's nuclear deal to include ballistic missiles. "But it is useless to talk about this if the US does not respect the nuclear deal." he said.
