Government Rejects RAPP Work Plan, Management Hope Solution to Protect The Fate of Thousands Workers

News24xx.com - PEKANBARU - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry rejected the work plan proposed by PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (RAPP). This decision was taken because PT RAPP did not revise the 10 year work plan, which is in line with the annual work plan of 2017, in accordance with the new peat regulations.

The law-based decision was taken by Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar in a letter signed by LHK Secretary General Bambang Hendroyono on 6 October.

The cancellation of these two work plans is similar to the operation of APRIL companies declared illegal, unless there is a revision of the new 10-year work plan in accordance with the government's peat regulations.

Related to the decision of the LHK Minister, Head of Corporate Communications of PT RAPP, Djarot Handoko, confirmed by News24xx.com, acknowledged that RAPP has received a second letter from KLHK stating that the work plan was not in accordance with the rules of peat and illegal governance as a reference in operational activities in the field.

"We are studying a letter from the Ministry and look forward to achieving a comprehensive joint solution. We believe that the Government can provide certainty of the investment and business climate in the face of increasing global market competition, while continuously striving to protect thousands of workers who depend on their development sustainable forestry industry, " Djarot explained.

"It is our responsibility to ensure that our operational plan not only protects the environment but also protects the rights of our workers, the future of their families and the local community as a whole that depends on our business for their economic and social needs," he continued. ***
