The controversy of Indonesian bishop was highlighted by international media

News24xx.com -  International media highlighted the resignation of one bishop in Indonesia, related allegations scandal of misappropriating the funds in the church.

The allegation has been refuted by Ruteng bishop, from Flores East Nusa Tenggara province, named Hubertus Leteng.

A number of international media like BBC, AFP, Seattle Times writen the Vatican statement on October 11, 2017 that declaring if Pope Francis has received a petition for the resignation of Bishop Hubertus.

An official statement of the Office of the Pope Francis in his website write, "Pope Saint Francis has received the resignation from the pastoral handling on the Diocese of Sampit, Indonesia, as presented by Hubertus Leteng,".

With the decline of Bishop Hubertus, his position will be replaced by the bishop from Denpasar, Sylvester San, while waiting for the appointment of a new one.

But a number of media such as the BBC and AFP, as quoted on Thursday, October 12 2017, says if Bishop Hubertus was accused by a priest in his territory, that he entered into an intimate relationship with a woman and embezzled church funds for USD 124 thousand (IDR 1.6 billion).

With the receipt of this resignation, Bishop Hubertus ceases at the age of 58 years, which means 17 years earlier than the retirement age for a bishop.

Earlier in June, as reported by AFP, total 69 priest in Indonesia had resigned as a form of protest over conduct of Bishop Hubertus.

This is makes Vatican made an investigation against of allegation for Bishop Hubertus.

Bishop Hubertus is secretly borrow funds amount USD 94 thousands of Indonesia Bishops Conference and take funds amount USD 30 thousand from the diocese without registering transactions.
