News24xx.com -  Hackers managed to steal some sensitive data about the F-35 aircraft and the Australian P-8's surveillance jet when the country's defense contractor network was hacked.

Mitchell Clarke officials from the intelligence agency of the Australian Signal Directorate (ASD) said, "The theft of the data took place massively and extreme", on Thursday, October 12, 2017.

Clarke explained that the stolen data was not only about the two fighter jets, but also the smart bombs to maritime patrol aircraft.

Overall, the data stolen from Australia's defense contractor network reached 30 gigabit.

Clarke told AFP that the perpetrators used China Chopper tools that are often used by Chinese hackers.

Australia's Defense Industry Minister, Christopher Pyne says his country is often the target of hacking, especially after launching USD 39 billion submarine project touted as the world's largest.

But according to Pyne, the hacked data this time does not include important information that could harm the Australian defense industry.

"Fortunately, the data that taken is commercial data, not military data, it's not secret information, I do not know who did it," he said.
