News24xx.com -  The Victorian government announces if disposable plastic bags that normally used in market and another shopping areas will be officially banned in the state of Victoria, Australia.


Previously, disposable plastic bags have been banned in South Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory. While the laws of Western Australia and Queensland imminent into force next year.

In a statement, as quoted by ABC Australia Plus, on Thursday, October 19, 2017, Environment Minister, Lily D'Ambrosio said the Victorian Government will consult with businesses and the public regarding about the implementation of the ban.


He said the use of plastic bags type of heavier plastic bags not good for the environment.


In July, Coles and Woolworths, supermarket giants in South Australia announced that they would abolish single-use bags for the next 12 months, and charge 15 cents for reusable products.


Plastic Bag Free Victoria NGO spokesman, Robert Skehan told ABC Radio Melbourne that he was optimistic about the scheme.

"For us it does not matter when the law has been passed in parliament because such an announcement has been made before, but nothing has happened. The government in 2006 has announced it will do, but the law never reached to Parliament, " Skehan said.
