News24xx.com -  The oldest and farthest black hole ever observed ie a rugged celestial body that is 800 million times more massive than the sun - gives scientists some surprises about the universe when on a cosmic scale.

The astronomers on Tuesday, December 12 2017 said the black hole which is in the center of a very luminous celestial body called quasar is about 13.1 billion light years from Earth.

The quasar light detected by researchers comes from about 690 million years after the Big Bang that gave rise to the universe, when the universe was only five percent of its present age.

"So if the universe were 50 years old, we saw pictures of the man when he was two and a half years old," said astronomer Eduardo Bañados of the Carnegie Institution for Science, who led the research which published in the journal Nature.

"As we look to more distances, we also can look back in old time because the time it takes for light to travel across the universe", Bañados adds.

That means the object dates from 13.1 billion years ago. While the Earth is about 4.5 billion years old.

The newly detected quasars, called J1342 + 0928 was exist during the fundamental changes in the nature of the early universe, as they move from darkness without any light being emitted into the brightness of light and when the gravity condenses matter into the first stars.

"This object gives us a measurement of the time when the universe was lit by starlight for first time," said another researcher the physics professor Robert Simcoe of the Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The discovery of a large hole that existed at the beginning of the universe was shocking the researchers. Its existence at the time was contrary to current ideas about the formation and growth of such objects.
