The increase of motor population was also accompanied by shifting segment of buyers who initially only from the upper middle class, now extends to the lower middle segment.

Senior General Marketing of Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM), Hendri Wijaya, explained that the scooter Yamaha NMax initially targeted the upper middle consumer group, or who already have a car but need a motor as an alternative transportation.

But since its launch in 2015, NMax which has sold approximately 560 thousand units in Indonesia and 140 thousand units in the export market, also attracts consumers in the first buyers segment was down to the middle class.

"It's already has very wide segment. On the beginning we set it for the middle to top. But after the spread, now you see every woman wearing scooters like this," said Hendri after introducing Yamaha NMax 2018 model in Sentul, Java West.

"We have many buyers, especially at the level of young people," he said later added that many car users also use big scooters to maintain prestige.

"Users of cars when using a small motor is not a prestige, so many of them then choose a larger motorcycle for they comfort and their prestige are also awake," he said.

On the other hand, he explained the price also being the factor for consumers when buying a vehicle, especially with a price range of IDR 26-30 million.
