News24xx.com -  At least 12 people were killed after a passenger train hit a truck in a countryside of South African.

The train that took people that come home after the holiday was fire after a terrible collision.

While 268 others were injured, many of them were critical. And surviving passengers were forced to withdraw their luggage from that accident to a nearby street.

South African authorities blame the truck driver for trying to cross the lane right in front of the passing train.

"The truck driver was too risky, because he thought that he would get through," Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi told reporters.

Maswanganyi also indicated that the death toll could increase. The train that carrying 429 passengers, has traveled from Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

The footage shows part of the Shosholoza Meyl train that burnt following a collision between the Hennenman community and Kroonstad in the Free State province.

Mthuthuzeli Swartz, chief executive of the South African passenger transport agency, said that the train driver and his assistant suffered minor injuries.

Mthuthuzeli Swartz said that the truck that pulled two trailers was in the middle of the road when the train hit it and dragged the truck as far as 400 meters. He said that 'human error' is the cause of the accident.
