"In some regions around the world, networks can be very slow and not always reliable, which can be even more difficult after a disaster, where communication becomes very important," Asha Sharma, Product Lead for Social Good on Facebook. For that reason, the availability of Safety Check feature was extended to Facebook Lite for Indonesian users.

For Safety Check itself, Facebook claims that this feature has been activated more than 1,000 times worldwide and has notified people that their family and friends are safe for more than 3 billion times.

"Our goal is to create tools that help keep people safe and make it easier to get the help you need in the recovery process after a disaster," Asha said.

Facebook hopes, by presenting Safety Check on Facebook Lite, more people can easily connect with their friends and family to let them know that they are safe after a disaster and ensure the safety of others.***
