News24xx.com - After suffering a high pain for two weeks, a man named Saidalavi, 46 finally managed to breathe with relief after the surgeon lifted a huge lump from his leg.

Saidalavi was diagnosed with elephantiasis when teenager after he contracted a parasitic worm infection that spread by mosquito bites.

He must to lie in bed since 2016 with a large lump on his thigh, but he must forced to undergo surgery after being infected.

A month after surgery, he was able to stand for the first time after receiving treatment at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi, India.

The 46-year-old said, "I thank to the doctors from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to lead a normal life."

"It's amazing to be standing on my legs, I've let go of all hope and even worry, my foot is need to be amputated if the infection has spread."

"Now, I have got my life back and look forward to get a job again."

Lymphatic filariasis - otherwise known as elephantiasis - is caused by a tropical infection caught from a worm that is transmitted through mosquito bites.

Saidalavi was diagnosed with elephantiasis from 30 years ago and has undergone a number of operations, but the swelling continues to increase. A team of five surgeons and three anesthesiologists removed the lump in a five-hour operation.

Dr Subramania Iyer, head of plastic surgery and reconstruction said: "It was a complicated operation. Some complications can occur because the patient is overweight and his inability to walk."

"It is a challenge for anesthesiologists to manage large excision in overweight patients. And physical transfer of Saidalavi to the operating table and correct position during surgery is also difficult and requires careful planning," he said.

"He will need a lump-reduction surgery on his legs for six until nine months, and then he will be able to get a normal life."
