News24xx.com -  The parents of sickly toddlers have lost their fight to maintain the support of their baby's life.

Doctors at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool told High Court judges that further treatment for 21-month-old Alfie Evans was futile.

Doctors says, continuing to provide life support to the baby is not good, unjust and inhumane.

But Alfie's parents, Kate James and Tom Evans, who are in their 20s, say they are still struggling to keep the baby's care going.

Mr Justice Hayden decided to support doctors at the hospital after analyzing a dispute at a hearing in the High Court's Family Division in Liverpool earlier this month.

Judge Hayden said that he received medical evidence indicating that further treatment was a waste.

'Alfie's needs now are good quality palliative care. He needs peace, calm and privacy in order to end his life as he has, with dignity. "

He paid tribute to Alfie's parents and to doctors and nurses at Alder Hey.

Alfie's mother left the court before Judge Hayden came to the conclusion, and her father did not accept it when the decision was announced. The judge had previously learned that Alfie, who was born on May 9 2016, had a degenerative neurological condition.

He praised Alfie's parents for exploring every avenue to keep their child alive and the life-aid tool not being revoked.

Outside the Alder Hei hospital, about 30 people that joined in 'Alfie's Army' supported the family as they awaited the court's decision.

Blue and purple balloons fluttered in the wind as they sang: "Save Alfie Evans!"
