After nearly killing their 41-day-old baby boy, couple from Kent have been jailed for 10 years

News24xx.com -  Jody and Antony Smith have been jailed for 10 years after nearly killing their 41-day-old baby boy, Tony Smith Junior.

The baby suffered life-threatening septicaemia and a host of other infections after his bone breaks out in eight places by 2014.

His parents had carried out to have committed a series of 'violent attacks', including swinging the young infant through his ankle.

As a result both legs of the baby must be amputated, and has now been left with a lifelong disability.

However, his parents delayed taking the child to the doctor for nine hours because they claimed to have to wait for the plumber to repair the damaged boiler.

When he was finally taken to the hospital, he was seriously ill, with his eyes closed and his lower limbs becoming hard and swollen. After being treated intensively, Tony made it through - but now faces a lifetime disability.

Jody, 24, and Antony, 46, rejected accusations of causing or allowing serious physical damage to his son, but a jury at the Maidstone District Court took less than an hour to ensure they were guilty on Friday afternoon.

The judge cried when he heard the victim's statement, and saw the photo of the boy with his new family now.

Judge Philip Statman praised his adoptive parents as a savior, and the doctors who regarded him as 'extraordinary'.

Violations that cause or allow serious harm to the child will be imposed a maximum of 10 years in prison.

A NSPCC spokesperson said: "This is a shocking and very sad case. Simpson and Smith should loved, protected, and kept their son safe from harm. Instead, they create life-changing injuries to a helpless baby and it is true that they now have to be behind bars as a consequence of their actions. Baby and little children rely heavily on their caring parents and we all have an obligation to keep their welfare. "
