News24xx.com -  A two-year-old boy and his brother, six-year-old, were killed after hit-and-run by a car in Coventry.

The two children were struck by a car, that suddenly raced very fast on MacDonald Road, in the Stoke area at about 2 pm, local time. An eyewitness reported that their mother is pushing her youngest child in a stroller while his brother was holding her mom's hand when they were hit.

Both were taken to the hospital with severe injuries, but the two-year-old boy died shortly after being taken to the hospital. And around seven o'clock at night the six-year-old boy died.

A black Ford Focus was found abandoned shortly after the accident and 53-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman have been arrested, on suspicion of causing death from drunk driving.

A resident, who chose not to mention his name, said that the accident caused the debris from the vehicle and the poor boy's stroller was scattered on the street.

"The police have collected debris all over the street, it is sad to see the fact that they fled and hid after crashing the victims," ??he said.

Witnesses have told how members of the public restrained the driver and passenger as they tried to flee the scene.

One man said: 'I heard screaming and a car revving off, I only saw the back of the car screaming around a corner and it was suddenly surrounded by people.

'A guy shouted "it's them" and suddenly he had the car door open and was trying to snatch the keys. The driver looked like he was trying to wrestle the keys away. "

The road remain closed while emergency services are on the scene and officers speak with witnesses.

The couple in the Ford Focus were believed to have fled through a local park where they then hid in garages near a residential area.

West Ambulance Service said: 'Medical staff arrived at the scene and found two pedestrians, two boys, seriously injured after a collision with the car.'

"It is clear that they both suffered very serious injuries from the incident, after got emergency treatment at the scene by our staff, they both were immediately taken to the hospital."
