News24xx.com -  The opposition-controlled East Ghouta, a mostly rural area on the outskirts of the capital Damascus, has been under a government siege since 2013.

About 400,000 Syrians live there. The siege has resulted in a massive inflation of staple food with a bag of bread for USD 5.

The rate of malnutrition has reached an unprecedented level, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, with 11.9 percent of children under five years of acute malnutrition.

Only one aid convoy was allowed in the area in February, to the city of Nashabieh, but nothing were allowed in January and December.

Nisma al-Hatri, a resident of East Ghouta, as quoted by Al Jazeera that her husband and her 10-year-old daughter Sara wake up to the sound of warplanes.

"Every day goes like this: bombing, then I clean my house from the influence of a nearby shot, then we hide in one room, try to survive or die together," Hatri said.

"My daughter, Sara and I woke up with hands hugging each other from the night before," Hatmi continued.

"We all slept on the mattress, she hugs me and asks why she can not play, or to school or see her friends, I can not answer her."

The 32-year-old woman was once a teacher but school closed a month earlier because the situation became too dangerous to go out. Nevertheless, Hatmi still gives lessons Sara and the other neighbors every day.

Her husband went out every morning for several hours and returned with barley, which Hatmi had cooked with rice for their breakfast and dinner. Some days her husband returned with empty hands.

Mahmood Adam, a Syrian Civil Defense member, explained that life in Ghouta East was a disaster.

"We are talking about systematic targeting of civilians in their homes, schools, medical centers, markets, and civil defense sites. This is the destruction of society in this area."

"There are families who have been hiding in basements and underground shelters that have not seen the sun in a few days for fear of the brutality of Russian regimes and fighter planes," he continued.

"We don't know whether we will be alive to tell the world what is happening in the next hour or day, the rocket launchers are endless, and the warplanes has not left the East Ghouta sky since Sunday."

"Everyone here knows this is a massacre and a crime against humanity," he added. "It's a war against civilians."

Speaking from the Gaza town of Gaziantep, Osama Bin Javaid said that doctors in East Ghouta say that his situation can not describe beyond words.

"They are trying to provide medical assistance to people inside hundreds of people injured in rocket attacks, shells, and nonstop air strikes."

"They are running out of medical aid and a place to accommodate these people because at least 22 facilities, according to the Syrian Medical Association of Syria, have been targeted since Sunday," he said.

Ahmed al-Masri, spokesman for the Union of Syrian Free Doctors, said that targeting every aspect of civil life.

"The regime forces used the most violent bombing," he said. "As a result, many hospitals and medical facilities in East Ghouta are targeted and destroyed directly."

"Three of our medical centers were peeled and destroyed and one of our crew was killed and three others were injured."

Meanwhile, the UN Security Council failed to reach an agreement on a resolution filed by Sweden and Kuwait which called for a 30-day cessation of hostilities to allow the sending of aid and evacuation of civilians from the besieged Ghouta East.

Russia's UN Ambassador, Vassily Nebenzia said there was no agreement and gave an amendment to the draft resolution to be realistic.

He also accused Syrian civil defenders, also known as White Helm, as being closely linked to terrorist groups.

Syrian UN Ambassador Basher al-Jaafari accused the United Nations and mainstream media of supporting terrorists recruited by the United States from around the world to fight in Syria.
