Rex Tillerson was fired as Secretary of State by Trump

Rex TillersonRex Tillerson -  The US President Donald Trump fired his Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, through Twitter. In his tweets, he thanked Tillerson for his service as US top diplomat. He also said that he would choose CIA Director Mike Pompeo as his replacement.

Trump also decided on Gina Haspel as Pompeo’s replacement as CIA Director.

When asked by reporters for the reason of the firing of Tillerson, Trump said that they did not have a good “chemistry” with each other. “We got along actually quite well, but we disagreed on things,” said Trump. Trump claimed that he liked Tillerson a lot but they never saw eye to eye.

“With Mike, Mike Pompeo, we have a very similar thought process. I think it’s going to go very well,” Trump said.

Tillerson is one of the many US officials who left the cabinet, either by resigning or being fired, ever since Trump took office. Under Secretary Steve Goldstein argued that Tillerson had a reason to stay, with the critical progress in national security. Goldstein was later fired as well by the White House on Tuesday.

Tillerson had not known he was fired until he read Trump’s tweet. He was on an official tour to Africa when it happened and did not know the reason for his firing. He got a call from Trump about three hours after Trump fired him via Twitter. He said he would finish his term on March 31 and then he would return to being a “private citizen”.

Trump and Tillerson had been dubbed the “odd couple of politics” because of their different temperament and demeanor. It was only a matter of time until they separated.
