News24xx.com -  The US prosecutors are seeking death penalty for Nikolas Cruz, a 19 year old gunman who attacked and killed 17 people in Florida High School.

The shooting in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida was the worst school shooting in US since 2012.

Cruz admitted that he had arrived on the school and started shooting around at the students. He then abandoned his weapon and escaped.

The prosecutors were trying to give Cruz death penalty for his “atrocious” or “cruel” crime. They claimed that it was a “homicide” done with “cold, calculated and premeditated manner.”

Cruz’s lawyer, Howard Finkelstein said that his party would plead guilty if the death penalty was not considered.

“We are not saying he is not guilty but we can’t plead guilty while death is still on the table,” he said.

Nikolas Cruz is an alumnus of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, which he attacked. He had show signs of self-harm and unhealthy interest in weapons before the incident, and was investigated by local police and Department of Children and Family.

FBI had received a note warning them about Cruz before the shooting happened. Not only that, a man had also reported to law enforcement agency about the disturbing comment that Cruz made in YouTube.
