News24xx.com -  Cellular service agency, Telkomsel, claimed that it would turn off its internet networking during Nyepi or Balinese “Day of Silence, 1940 Saka year, in Bali on March 17 2018.

”We are just getting ready if the government orders us to turn off internet connection during Nyepi,” said Telkomsel’s head of human resources, Teni Ginaya, when asked about it in Denpasar, Wednesday.

However, there is still no official leaflet from the government which order them to turn off the internet connection during Nyepi in Bali.

They only got the information from mass media, which told all the cellular service agencies to turn off their internet networking temporarily during Nyepi.

“Technically, we are ready to follow the government order. But, we also need an official leaflet as the base for doing an activity or an order,” said Teni.

According to her, if the order was executed that all the internet connection in Bali would be turned off. But she could not be sure with the bordering area because the area around borders also received internet connection from the neighboring areas. “For example, the people who live in Gilimanuk can get a connection from cellular service agency in Banyuwangi,” she said.

Telkomsel respects Nyepi ritual done by Hindu people in Bali and it will turn off its internet connection if that is what it is asked for.

Before this, the head of Bali’s Communication, Informatics and Statistics Agency, Nyoman Sujaya claimed that he would make sure that Nyepi day on 17 March 2018 would be without internet connection for 24 hours.

“It is in line with the appeal of religious assemblies and the Forum for Religious Harmony in Bali. On Monday, one thing that was clear was that the internet on mobile phone will be turned off and all operators have agreed on it,” he said.
