A young man sentenced in jail after raping and murdering 72-year-old woman

News24xx.com -  Tragic, a pensioner has been became of rape and murder victim, after a 26-year-old man breaking into her home.

The man, Craig Keogh has been found guilty after killed Jane Hings and her dog, after taking about four minutes to suffocate her with a pillow. Keogh broke into the 72-year-old victim’s home in Fleckney, near Leicester, on September 24, last year.


Jurors at Birmingham Crown Court, Mary Prior QC spent about four hours and unanimously convicting murder, burglary and rape.

But, Keogh refused to give evidence at his trial, having previously claimed in police interviews that he had consensual sex with Mrs Hings and that she was alive when he left.

After killed of Mrs. Hings, he had been on a cocaine-fuelled night out with friends and the money that he got from Mrs Hings home, was used on showing off, meals out, drinks for friends. Despite did a brutal rape and murder, his friends (witnesses) said Keogh was ‘bubbly’ in the days after Mrs Hings’ death.

 

Mary Prior QC said of Keogh: "How could you be bubbly and happy in such circumstances? You killed some one and used her money for having fun. It's crazy"


Keogh will be sentenced on Tuesday, March 27 2018.
