News24xx.com -  On Thursday, March 22 2018, Russia condemns British Foreign Affair Minister, Boris Johnson, for his remark which compares Russia President Vladimir Putin with Adolf Hitler.

He said that Putin sought to clean his country’s public image by hosting the World Cup soccer tournament, just like Hitler did for Germany by hosting Olympics in Berlin in 1936.

“It’s insulting and unacceptable,” said Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, regarding Johnson’s remark.

Even before this, there was already tension in the air between Russia and England which has a potential to turn into a fight. It all started by the poisoning of a Russian double agent, Sergei Skripal, and his daughter Yulia Skripal, with military-level nerve agent, in Salisbury, England, on March 4.

The father and daughter are in critical condition at the moment. The assassination attempt on the Skripals is the first known offensive use of nerve toxin in Europe since World War II.

England accused Russia as the one who orchestrate the assassination attempt and expelled 23 Russian diplomats in their country. British Prime Minister, Theresa May, even called the attack on the Skripals “a pattern of Russian aggression against Europe”. Russia denied the allegation.

Other than England, Russia also has diplomatic rift with United States of America, for the allegation that the country gave help to Donald Trump by interfering in US 2016 presidential election.

US also corners Russia regarding Skripals case, with US State Department spokeswoman, Heather Nauert, saying that Russia’s denials were “absurd”, when clearly the evidence showed that they were the ones behind the assassination attempt.

Russian embassy in US wrote in Facebook in retaliation that Nauert’s reasoning was “incompetent”. “Since when is she and expert on chemical weapons?” said the embassy. “Let’s stop demonizing Russia. It is high time to stop blaming us for every sin,” the embassy said, as reported by NBC News.

On Wednesday, lawmaker Ian Austin said Putin was trying to clean Russia’s image by hosting the World Cup, comparing it with what Hitler in Germany in 1936. Johnson said that he agreed with his statement.

Russian ambassador in England, Alexander Yakovenko, echoed Peskov’s statement that the comparison was unfair, considering Russia’s role in fighting the Nazis.

As cited from NBC News, he said, “Nobody has the right to insult the Russian people, who defeated Nazism and lost more than 25 million people, by comparing our country to Nazi Germany.”
