News24xx.com -  Australian media stated that the goverment of China will develop their military bases in the small island nation of Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean.

That statement was written by The Sydney Morning Herald.

"The goverment fo China plans to place a permanent military base in Vanuatu to provide a permanent military presence in the South Pacific," the paper said, citing sources.

Initial, the discussions on this issue between the governments of both countries have begun. The official proposal to develop a military base near Australia has not been done by Beijing, but the negotiations have been made in Washington and Canberra.

In particular, according to a representative from Vanuatu in Canberra, Kalfau Caloris, the State Ministry of Foreign Affairs has no information about the proposal.

The publication notes that China will have a foreign military base in less than 2,000 kilometers from Australia, it will allow China to alter its strategic balance in the region and have potential to increase the risk of confrontation between Beijing and Washington.

According to the newspaper, Australian intelligence and partners in the US and New Zealand are concerned about China's growing influence in Oceania countries.

This is will being the fist base of Chinese in the Pacific Ocean and the second in the world.

The first foreign military base of the PRC was opened in Djibouti in August 2017.
