Syria claimed to successfully shot down missiles in Homs

Missile shotMissile shot - Syria's air defense claims to successfully shot down a number of missiles over the province of Homs. The missile strike was reportedly targeting the Syrian's air base.

As reported by AFP on Tuesday, April 17th 2018, the Syrian news agency reported, did not provide details about the missile strikes in the Syrian region. It is not clear who fired the missile.

Syrian national television called missile strikes on its territory on Monday, April 16th 2018 at night as an 'aggression'.

The Syrian Conflict Monitoring Organization, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reported six large explosions heard in two locations. The first location is near Al Shayrat Air Base, located in the southeast of Homs. The second location is in the Qalamoun region near Damascus, which is the site of two other Syrian air bases.

Director of Syrian Observatory, Rami Abdel Rahman, said some of the missiles fired were not about the Syrian air base. The report said that the missile strikes were launched by Israel, but an Israeli army spokesman declared: "I am not aware of any such incidents."

In a separate statement, Pentagon spokesman or the US Department of Defense, Heather Babb, said there were no military operations in the area of ??Homs and Damascus. "There are no US operations or coalitions in the area" he said.

The missile strike came day after the United States, Britain and France launched a missile strike into Syria on Saturday, April 14th. The attack was carried out in response to alleged chemical attacks in Douma which killed dozens of civilians. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime has been accused of masterminding the attack.
