News24xx.com - Social Minister Idrus Marham said that he would not stop the localization closing progam because in localizations, humans explotations happen, like human trafficking and prostitution, which give a lot of damage to the society.

From 2014 to 2017, Social Ministry had closed 122 from 136 prostitutes localizations that spread in some provinces in Indonesia. After the closings, around 20.000 sex workers (PSK) had been returned to their families.

“That is why, the Social Ministry will keep continuing the localization closing program. The target is in 2019, Indonesia will be free from prostitution localization” Idrus said in the Meeting of National Coordination of Prostitution Handling and Localozation Closing Support, in Jakarta, Thursday, April 19th 2018.

According to Idrus, there are things that have to be done by the government after the closing. Like preparing for the vocational, social readiness and psychological aspects. He said they have to consider the social and economic effects on the civilians who depend on those places for a living after they were closed.

Furhtermore, there are migrations of sex workers from one closed localization to another still-open localization“ In some cases, prostitutes from one closed localization moves to another localization,” he said.

At the meeting, he also praised Surabaya Government, which was led by Tri Rismaharani, for closing Dolly localization and even fixing up that place after it was closed. “Risma provides sources and training for the prostitutes to be independent. Risma turned the localization place into a creative house. The location is in that house and the creativity also becomes the source of income. Therefore, they will gain their dignity back” Idrus said.

Surabaya Major, Risma also attended the meeting. She said prostitution had become such a serious threat, like what happened in Dolly, especially for children and teenagers. Not only that it disturbed their study process, many of them even got dragged into prostitution practice, whether becoming a sex worker or pimp.

“There was a teenager aged 14 becoming a pimp, and there was also ones aged 16 and 17. Some school children in Dolly also could not study in an environment that was so noisy,” Risma said.

In East Java, there was 54 prostitution localizations at the start, but they were all closed down now. The data from Social Ministry found that there are still 20.000 sex workers who work in 43 other localizations in various parts of the country.
