3 ways to counter sleepiness in the morning
News24xx.com - For students and working people, who usually wake up early in the morning and have to be in school/work place around 06:30, sleepiness is unavoidable sometimes. However, we should not succumb to our sleepiness during work and school. There are ways to counter it. According to studies, there are three ways to do it:
1. Taking deep breath for 5 seconds
If you are sleepy, try to take deep breath several times. Research found that yawning is a sign that the oxygen inside out brain is decreasing. It causes the blood flow to not run as smoothly as usual, which then causes sleepiness. To counter it, try taking a deep breath for 5 seconds, and let it our for five seconds too. Do it several times until you feel refreshed.
2. Eating egg whites for breakfast
If you eat egg whites for breakfast, just the whites, it is said it can help cure sleepiness. It is suggested to eat egg whites with salt. Because according to scientists from Cambridge university, the protein inside egg whites can make our body more awake and alert so we will not feel sleepy easily during activities. The protein inside egg whites is predicted to be more effective than the carbohydrate inside chocolates, biscuits or candies. Scientists also found that the protein can activate brain cells, which triggers the release of orexin stimulant, a hormone produced by brains that can decrease sleepiness and make the body more alert. So, you better change your breakfast menu into egg whites if you are the type who feels sleepy easily.
3. Do not drink coffee
Many people assume that drinking coffee can counter sleepiness, but it turns out that is not true. Do not drink coffee when you are sleepy. Doctor Andreas Pasadja said that caffeine can only stop sleepiness, but the brain will still be tired. When you are sleepy and tired, the best way to handle it is by sleeping. But you cannot do that during work or school, so the best way for it is to not drink coffee at all. If you want to drink coffee, you have to adjust it with your sleeping cycle. If you want to sleep at 08:00 p.m. then you stop drinking coffee at around 08:00 or 09:00 a.m. This is because caffeine’s effect lasts for 9 to 12 hours, and it starts 30 minutes after we drink it.
