News24xx.com - Every day, a person needs six to eight hours for sleep. However, there are some people who can not have duration sleep for six until eight hours, for work or insomnia reasons.

And the impact of sleep deprivation on health has been revealed by many scientists.

Recently, research shows, if sleeping less than six hours a day can increase the risk of death to two-fold, associated with diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, and obesity.

"If you have some risk factors for heart disease, getting enough sleep is mandatory to reduce the risk of death," said the leader of research, Julio Fernandez-Mendoza. Mendoza is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

In a study published by the Journal of the American Heart Association, researchers involved for 1,344 49-year-old adults who agreed to spend one night's sleep in the laboratory.

The results showed, 39.2 percent of participants had at least three of the obesity risk factors such as increased total cholesterol, hypertension, and high blood sugar levels during fasting.

During a follow-up study 16 years later, 22 percent of the respondents died.

"Future clinical trials are needed to determine whether longer sleep combined with lowering pressure and blood sugar levels can improve the health condition of people with metabolic syndrome," Fernandez said.
