News24xx.com -  The Russian fighter (VCS) plane has been crashed and two pilots were killed on May 3, 2018 in Syria,

According to RIA Novosti, the plane crashed over the Mediterranean Sea after taking off from Khmeimim airfield.

"The two pilots were killed in a tragic way, according to information, the cause of the accident could have been due to birds that caught in the engine, but it not have impact on aircraft fire," the Defense Minister said.

Earlier on March 6, 2018, a Russian military transport plane has been crashed near an air base at Khmeimim.

At least 27 officers were killed.

On February 3, 2018, a Russian plane was shot down in Syria. The pilot named Roman Filipov was thrown and after landing, there was a firefight with militants.

Eventually,  Filipov blew himself up with a grenade to avoid the capture.

For his services, the pilot was awarded with the title of the Russian Hero.
