News24xx.com - People, especially women, will take good care of their skin, from having treatment, using lotions, consuming vitamins and exercising. One other important thing is keeping our skin from being exposed to fabrics that are considered dangerous.

However, today’s fashion trends use many types of clothes, without considering the danger of the fabric to our skin. “My worry is that, with the kind of crappy quality fast fashion that dominates the garments available to us today, there’s a whole generation growing up that don’t really have any sense of what makes a good-quality fabric and what makes a good-quality garment,” says Timo Rissanen, one of the authors of Zero Waste Fashion, as cited from Quartz.

In order to avoid that, you better watch carefully what fabric is made to make a garment you are about to buy the next time you go shopping for clothes. There are 5 fabrics that are dangerous for your skin.

1.       Bamboo Fabric

Fabric made of bamboo has been popular in China for a long time. The texture is gentle and cool, making it a perfect fabric to use in a country with tropical climate. However, the bamboo itself is hard and rough. According to a research done by a clothing company, Patagonia, the process in making bamboo into a soft fabric involves the use of many chemicals, like carbon disulfide, sodium hydroxide, and sulfuric acid. Those chemicals are dangerous if exposed to human skin for too long and too many times. It can cause disorder in reproduction.

2.       Wool

This fabric is usually used to make sweater or scarf that can keep you warm. However, not everyone can wear this fabric because it cause the skin to be itchy and dry. Live Science said that wool can cause ecseza to grow in human skin. Megan Johnston Flander, MD from Mayo Clinic, said that wool can cause irritation on the skin.

3.       Synthetic Fabric

This kind fabric is the most dangerous. Synthetic fabric like polyester, rayon, nylon, acetate and acrylic are processed with dangerous chemicals. It was discovered by a study from Stockholm University. The highest dangerous chemicals concentrate was found in synthetic fabric.

4.       Wrinkle-resistant fabric

These days, there are many people who use wrinkle-resistant fabric. However, this fabric uses dangerous chemicals, one of them being formaldehyde, a mix of formalin that is used to preserve food. External contact with the substance can cause coughing, breathing difficulty, watery eyes and skin irritation.

5.       Vintage clothing

This kind of clothing that is considered elegant by many is revealed to have dangerous effect on us. “Old fabrics and furs that have not been cleaned properly or not been stored in a dust-free garment bag can harbor years’ worth of dust and dander that can really raise a rash. Anything that’s been in mothballs can kick up pretty serious allergy too,” saysDoctor Ava Shamban, as cited from Everyday Health. So, if you buy vintage clothing, you better clean it up properly.

Those are fabrics that are dangerous to our skin. There are also fabrics that are safe for your skin, which are cotton, cashmere, silk, linen and ramie fabric.
