Not only Islam, these are eight religious who were also doing fasting rituals

News24xx.com -  For thirty days, Muslims around the world are fasting. In addition to not eating and drinking, Muslims should also be able to withstand lust from dawn to sunset.


But not only Islam, it turns out there are some religions that also perform fasting as an important religious ritual.

What religion is that?


 
1. Baha'i
The followers of this religion perform of fasting month which called Ala, started on March 2 until 20 every year. A person aged 15-70 years was required to perform this fasting. And they should be endure of hunger and thirsty from the rising sun up to the setting sun.

And for sick people, women who are menstruating, breastfeeding and travelers were not required to fast.

 

2. Buddha
Buddhist monks and nuns usually don't eat anything after lunch. They will eat again in next day. This cycle is almost similar to the cycle of fasting,  only have different time. The patterns that applied by monks and nuns also to support spiritual values ??and health.


3. Christian and Catholic
Roman Catholics recognize the existence of fasting at certain moments. Usually they will reduce the number of meals each day. And they will eating only one meal for a full day. The people aged around 18-59 years old are required to fast.

The Catholic Church teaches that all people are obliged by God to perform some penance for their sins, and that these acts of penance are both personal and corporeal. The purpose of fasting is spiritual focus, self-discipline, imitation of Christ, and performing penance.

 


4. Hinduism
Fasting in Hinduism is usually not the same among the regions. Hindu fasting rituals that exist in Indonesia will be different from the fasting rituals of the Hindus in the region of India and beyond.

Hindu people usually fast on certain days such as Ekadasi, Pradosha, and Purnima.


5. Jainism
Jainism is one of the many religions in India. People who embrace this religion recognize about two types of fasting. First, the fasting after chauvihar upwas ie not eating and drinking from morning until the next day. It means for 24 hours, a person was prohibited to eating and drinking. 
Second, a tiviar upwas ie where a person is still allowed to consume boiled water while fasting.

Jainism also knows other fasting that called as Santhara. Usually in every ritual, there is someone who sacrifices himself with not eat until death. This practice is actually strictly forbidden in India.


6. Judaism (Jews)
Jews also done fasting for every year. Usually,  they will fast for six days in each year. Usually the done it on important days such as Yom Kippur. Followers of Judaism decided to not eat and drink from morning till night.


7. Sikhs
Sikh will fast for health purposes as well as increased their spiritual strength in humans.

Fasting is believed to refresh the mind, improve their behavior and also give the spirits of life.

 

8. Taoism
In the teachings of Taoism, they were also known a fasting with the term of Bigu. Fasting is done by the Taoists who are still eating the daily diet but avoid foods that made from grains.

Some unspent grains that consist of a variety of rice and beans, or whatever comes from wheat, potatoes, corn, and sweet potatoes.
