The court in Iraq sentenced the Russian citizen to death for participation in the terrorist group "Islamic State" (IG, which is banned in the Russian Federation). This is reported by «Arab News», citing a source in the court.

According to the publication, over the past few months, more than 300 people have been sentenced to death in Iraq. Among them about 100 foreigners.

In mid-April, the Iraqi court sentenced seven foreign women to life imprisonment or the death penalty, among the life-sentenced were two Russians - Dagestan-born Alisa Ismailova and Elvira Magomedkhanova, born in 1992 and 1997.

Since August 2017, the criminal court of Iraq has been investigating the cases of several hundred women. They are accused of coming to the country with their husbands who fought on the side of the "Islamic state", or marrying militants after they arrived.
Chechen human rights activist Heda Saratova noted, that children of russian’s women are planning to take to Russia.

According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, there are about 100 children and 50 to 70 women in Iraqi prisons, who may have Russian citizenship.

In early April, the human rights organization «Amnesty International» reported that in 2017, more than 125 death sentences were carried out in Iraq, which is 42% more than in 2016.
