Be careful of the mental disease that can happen to you because of Instagram
Almost everyone now loves social media. One of the most popular social media is Instagram. People use it for everything from reading news, gossip, to posting pictures to attract people’s attention.
However, one thing that an Instagram use has to watch out for is the anxiety that comes with it, or as they call it Instagramxiety.
As cited from nypost.com, posts such as dream life style, travelling to idyllic places, visiting a famous cafe or simply showing a harmonious family can have bad impact on other people’s mentality.
Those posts show as if such a thing is normal and that is how happiness is. However, happiness can be found in different forms and in different ways.
According to Jenny Stallard, a writer for The Telegraph, the content posted in instagram was often “made up.” For example, a personal photo which was edited and perfected with a special application. Many people also pose with other people’s things just for the sake of posting an attractive post in instagram that can rouse others’ interest. “With only one photo that we see unintentionally, anxiety can appear,” Jenny said.
She said, self-countermeasures mechanism is the trick to survive the “cruel” world of social media. Stop following people whose posts disturb you and start following people whose posts make you happy. “You can avoid social media when you are having a bad day.
But it does not mean to stop using instagram. It is just that we have to be more selective in choosing what we want to see.” Cal Strode, the spokesman of a mental health institution said, the anxiety happened because we compare ourselves with other people too much.
“Today, most instagram users can see the lives of hundreds of other people. Comparing ourselves to other people too much is damaging and can make us feel bad.” He said that people should learn to respect themselves in order to have a good mental condition.
Last year a study by The Royal Society for Public Health found that instagram is considered to be the most dangerous social media for young people, from body perception, sleeping quality to anxiety. Instagram is considered as the most risky site, followed by Youtube and Twitter.
