News24xx.com - He is Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, the first astronaut from Malaysia. This event occurred in the month of fasting in the year 2007 ago, at which time the Ramadan fell in mid-September and October.

At that time, he became one of the crew of three people who will take off using the Russian Soyuz spacecraft on October 10th, 2007 in Baikonur, Kazakhstan. While the other two crews were Russian cosmonauts, Fyodor Yurchikhin and Oleg Kotov. The schedule of Sheikh Muszaphar's launched was only two days away, before entering Eid which for Muslims is the victory day after one month of fasting.

At the same time, Sheikh Muszaphar faced a dilemma. As a Muslim, he certainly wanted to do fasting, on the other hand he also did not want to waste the opportunity as the first Malaysian to go into space.

"I agree that I am Muslim, but my top priority iss to do more experiments as a Muslim, I want to do my responsibility, I hope to be able to do fasting in space" he said when quoted from Space on Saturday, May 19th 2018.

Because of that made the government through the National Fatwa Council of Malaysia to conduct a voting. It was said that what Sheikh Muszaphar did was an exception to fasting. "When you travel there is no coercion to do fasting" said Jamaluddin Jarjis as Malaysian Science Minister at the time.
