Here are five writers who accused of ever plagiarizing the work of others
News24xx.com - Plagiarism is often considered taboo by the authors in this world, because with plagiarizing the work of others they are considered not creative.
Here are five writers who accused of ever plagiarizing the work of others
1. Jane Goodall: Seeds of Hope
Leading primatologist Jane Goodall was accused of lifting content from various websites, including Wikipedia, for her book Seeds of Hope.
The author of an article in The Washington Post had spotted the similarity in the content and wrote about it, causing Goodhall much embarrassment.
She later republished the book with revised content. Goodall blamed the charge on "poor note taking skills" and claimed that it was a "careless mistake".
2. J. K. Rowling: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
In 2004, the author behind the wildly successful Harry Potter series was accused of stealing content from late author Adrian Jacob's book, The Adventures of Willy the Wizard.
The estate of the author had claimed that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was plagiarised from parts of his book. The Court of Appeal had ordered the estate to pay the first stage of £1.5m as security for costs. However, because no payment was made to the court, the claim failed.
3. Kaavya Viswanathan: How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life
This not exactly the debut Harvard student Kaavya Viswanathan was hoping for. Her first book, How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life, was pulled up for being very similar to author Megan McCafferty's book Sloppy First and Second Helpings.
Details of the lifting were first published by the university's newsletter -Harvard Crimson in 2006.
However, while Vishwanathan claimed that the similarities were "unintentional", her other book contracts and a movie deal were cancelled.
4. Stephenie Meyer: Breaking Dawn
The Twilight series author was embroiled in a plagiarism row after a college student, Jordan Scott, claimed that some parts of her book -Breaking Dawn -were lifted from the latter's little-known novel The Nocturne.
A `cease and deceit' order was sent to Hachette publication. In return, they requested her for a copy of the book, which was never sent.
In a statement, the publication said, "The Twilight Saga is entirely the creation of Ms Meyer...This claim is frivolous and will be defended vigorously."
5. Dan Brown: Da Vinci Code
It was Brown's most successful book, but there was a lot of hullabaloo about the Da Vinci Code's plot and storyline being similar to not one but two books.
In fact, a copyright case was filed against Brown by the authors of the book -The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail.
Another was filed by author Lewis Perdue who claimed that certain events were stolen from her novel, Daughter of God. However, both claims were proven to be false.
