News24xx.com - Fasting is an obligation for Muslim during Ramadan month. It is when people do not eat and drink from dawn until dusk.

Some people questions the benefits of fasting for human body. Scientists in America found that contrary to what some people believe, fasting is good for human brain performance.

Among the scientists is Mark Mattson, a neurologist from Johns Hopkins University. He studied how fasting can protect human brains from neurological diseases such as Alzheimer and Parkinson.

The research team found that limiting the calories consumption affects our memories, emotions and thoughts. This is because of our body’s metabolism. Everytime we eat, glucose from the food will be stored inside our liver in the form of glycogen. Our body needs 10 to 12 hours to use all the glycogen. After the glycogen is out, the body will burn the fat and turn it into a chemical substance that is used by neuron as energy. This chemical substance is important for learning, memorizing and for the brain’s health as a whole.

This is different when we are not fasting. We will eat three times a day. The body will not have time to use glycogen in the liver, so the chemical substance for learning and memory will not be produced.
