For the first time in the world, sneakers were made from chewing gum collected from the streets

New sneakers from chewing gumNew sneakers from chewing gum - Eco-sneakers «Gumshoe» in pink and black color will go on sale in June.

For the first time in the world, shoes were made from chewing gum. Chewing gum was collected directly on the streets of Amsterdam.

Annually, 1.5 million kilograms of chewing gum are thrown out in the streets of the city (this garbage is considered the second most common after cigarette butts), and local authorities spend millions of euros for cleaning.

With the recycled chew, synthetic rubber was gotten. It is transported to the «Gumdrop» enterprise in the form of pellets and there is melted to the shoes base. Such material is as strong as ordinary rubber, developers assure. For four pairs of bases, about a kilogram of chewing gum has gone. The top part of the sneakers is made from more traditional materials.

Sneakers will be sold from June for 190 euros. But already now you can pre-order the original shoes on the manufacturer's website ( for the price of 50 euros. Now they exist only in pink and black colors. "By purchasing these shoes, you contribute to the solution of problems with garbage, and wear them, showing your support", - the company's representatives say.

The concept was developed by the agencies “Publicis One» and «Amsterdam Metropolitan Area», and the design created a local brand «Explicit Wear».
