News24xx.com -  Argentina cancelled a friendly football match with Israel before World Cup. This is apparently due to the pressure over Israel’s treatment toward Palestinians in Gaza.

Israeli defense minister, Avigdor Lieberman said that it was too bad that Argentina could not stand the pressure from “Israeli-hating inciters.”

“We will not yield before a pack of anti-Semitic terrorist supporters,” Lieberman said, as cited from BBC.

Israel embassy in Argentina has confirmed that the friendly football match has been “suspended.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had contacted Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri in order to salvage the tie between them. However, Macri said that there was nothing he could do about it.

Argentina Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie said that Argentina’s players were not willing to play in the match. The striker, Gonzalo Higuain even said that they had done the right thing by canceling the match.

“Health and common sense come first. We felt that it wasn’t right to go,” Higuain said, as cited from BBC.

The news was welcomed with cheers by the Palestinians in Gaza, who had suffered from Israeli’s treatment.

At least 120 Palestinians killed and thousands were injured. The Palestinian Football Association even released a statement, thanking Argentina striker Lionel Messi and his teammates.

The association’s leader, Jibril Rajoub said that it was a “red card” from the rest of the world toward Israel.
